Ultrasound-guided injection therapy for pain in North Vancouver
Dr. Lucas MacMillan, ND uses musculoskeletal ultrasound to see the joint or tissue causing your pain and place each injection precisely. Every plan starts with a full assessment, so you get the right option for you.
Why ultrasound guidance
See the problem. Place the injection with care.
Ultrasound lets us look at tendons, ligaments, joints and nearby nerves and blood vessels in real time, then guide the needle to exactly the right spot. It is used where it helps accuracy and safety, and every plan is built around your history, your goals and the specific area involved.
See what we see
You can ask to see your own tissues
Ask for a look
You are welcome to request an ultrasound view of the area. Dr. Lucas can show you what he sees on screen and explain it as he goes.
Pictures and videos
We can often send you pictures or short videos of what we saw, to keep for yourself and to share with your healthcare team.
What it is not
These images are not a formal imaging report. We cannot provide a report or diagnostic result the way a radiologist can. Think of it as a live look that helps guide your visit.
Common options
Injection therapies we use for pain
Your options are chosen after a thorough assessment and depend on what is causing your pain. Common ones include:
How it works
From first visit to treatment plan
1. Assessment
Health history, a review of any imaging or reports you have, and a physical exam of the area.
2. Ultrasound
Where it helps, ultrasound shows the tissue and guides the needle in real time.
3. Your plan
A clear explanation of your options, risks and costs. If injections are not a good fit, we will tell you and suggest other routes.

Most people feel a needle prick, pressure and a short ache. Local anaesthetic is used where appropriate, and soreness for a few days afterward is common.
No treatment works for everyone. Some people notice meaningful improvement, some partial improvement and some none. Results vary, and we will be honest with you about what is realistic for your situation.
Many extended health plans cover naturopathic visits up to a yearly limit, and direct billing is available for Pacific Blue Cross, Manulife and Sun Life. Injection supplies are often not covered, so check your plan. Current fees are always listed on our booking page.
